In particular, the scamsters use phishing tricks to gain access to people’s account information and their bank details.
Pan card fraud: The latest digital scam that has been hitting the headlines lately came due to the complaints of India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) customers as they came with messages stating that their bank account will be blocked within the next 24 hours unless they update their PAN card details.

It is said that these messages carry suspicious links that divert the victims to the fraudulent sites. The scammer targets the people by phishing, hence making sensitive information regarding the bank go public.

Regarding this, the Press Information Bureau (PIB) on X dismissed such messages as fake. India Post confirmed that it did not send the alert and instead warned the public against clicking links or sharing any personal information that could be circulated as part of the scam. Said PIB in its statement, “It is false that IPPB accounts will be blocked within 24 hours if PAN details are not updated. India Post does not send such messages.”
To be safe from fraudsters:
Share PAN Details Only When Necessary: Share your PAN card details with only trusted and verified organizations or platforms, only when it becomes absolutely necessary.
Be Careful with Links: Never click on links from unknown sources in emails or messages. Always hover over links to see where they are going before clicking.
Be Alert to Red Flags: Be cautious of urgent requests, threats, or deals that seem too good to be true. Scammers often use fear or excitement to manipulate people.
Enable Two-Factor Authentication: Activate 2FA for more security. The method involves additional verification, for example, by receiving a code on your phone, making it harder for hackers to gain access to your account even if they have your password.
