Tamil Cinema’s First Found Footage Horror Film ‘Murmur’ Set to Thrill Audiences
Chennai, Feb 25 (SocialNews.XYZ) – Tamil cinema is set to witness a groundbreaking horror experience with ‘Murmur’, the first-ever found footage horror film in the industry. Directed by Hemnath Narayanan, the film promises to leave audiences deeply unsettled long after they leave the theater.

The Inspiration Behind ‘Murmur’
Speaking about his inspiration for the project, Hemnath Narayanan revealed his long-standing fascination with the found footage genre. “I have always been a big fan of films. When I watched Hollywood classics like ‘The Blair Witch Project,’ I often wondered why Tamil cinema hadn’t explored this genre. As I gained experience in filmmaking, I decided to take the plunge and create a found footage horror film,” he told IANS.
Unlike traditional horror movies that rely on background scores and staged scares, ‘Murmur’ aims for an immersive and unsettling experience. The film adopts a raw and realistic approach, presenting the horror as if it were real-life footage.
The Story of ‘Murmur’
The film revolves around a group of YouTubers who embark on a paranormal investigation in the eerie Jawath Hills. Their objective is to capture visuals of seven hermits and a spirit said to possess supernatural powers. However, their adventure takes a terrifying turn when they mysteriously disappear without a trace.
Days later, the police launch an investigation into their disappearance. The only evidence they find is the group’s damaged cameras, which contain chilling footage of their experiences. ‘Murmur’ presents this recovered footage as a documentary-style film, allowing the audience to witness the terrifying events firsthand.
A Unique Horror Experience
What sets ‘Murmur’ apart from conventional horror films is its deep psychological impact. According to Hemnath, most horror films scare audiences momentarily, but the fear dissipates soon after the film ends. With ‘Murmur’, he promises a lingering fear that will stay with viewers long after they leave the theater.
“This is not a film where you experience fear for just a few minutes. The sense of dread and unease will continue to haunt you even after the credits roll,” he says.
Another major distinction of ‘Murmur’ is the absence of a background score, a bold move that enhances the realism and tension. Unlike traditional horror movies that use music to manipulate emotions, ‘Murmur’ relies entirely on natural sounds and eerie silences to heighten the terror.
Anticipation and Release
‘Murmur’ has already garnered significant attention from film enthusiasts and horror fans, eager to experience Tamil cinema’s first venture into the found footage genre. Scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on March 7, the film is expected to redefine horror storytelling in Tamil cinema.
Written and directed by Hemnath Narayanan, ‘Murmur’ is produced by Prabhakaran under the banner of S.P.K. Pictures in association with Stand Alone Pictures International.
With its unique approach, spine-chilling storyline, and immersive experience, ‘Murmur’ is poised to set a new benchmark in the Tamil horror genre. Horror lovers and cinephiles alike are eagerly awaiting its release, prepared to embark on a terrifying cinematic journey unlike any before.
